with Erin Dertner

Both “color” and “texture” are powerful in painting, so dive in with Erin as she shows you how to see color in the landscape in new and different ways. No theories or charts, just exercising the power of acute vision coupled with knowledge of some of history's great painters, especially Monet.

Color is one thing but if your surface ends up flat because you are too afraid to throw some paint down, watch as Erin blocks in her entire canvas with oil washes and her lavender medium before "icing the cake" with a palette knife. Watch dynamic demos, then start your own painting and begin pushing the envelope and you will jumpstart your new path toward more solid structure and an exciting canvas texture. Bring the art materials that you have and are comfortable working with.

Buenaventura Art Center in the Ventura Harbor Village. Use entrance #3 into the parking lot. We are on the second floor above Le Petit Cafe restaurant.

NOTE NEW PARKING CHARGES:
The Ventura Harbor Village will be imposing new parking fees on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays starting July 11. That means anyone signing up for this class as of this notification should be aware that parking in the lot outside of Buenaventura Art Center will cost an additional $1 per hour up to 4 hours. After four hours the all-day cost is a flat $10. Erin is aware of the parking issue and timing and assures you that her class will begin and end so as to keep your parking costs to $4.

However, Erin will also be hosting a reception for her solo show on the Plein Air Ventura County wall at the Art Center, immediately after her class. The reception will go from 2 - 4:30pm. Everyone is invited but please be aware of the extra parking cost if you park in the main lot.

To avoid paying parking fees for this or any of your future excursions to the Village on weekends, you can park on the street on Spinnaker Dr. where there will be no charge, or in the "Dolphin Lot" which is toward the entrance to the Harbor area at Spinnaker Dr. and Harbor Blvd. You'll see some big signs for Safe Harbor Ventura Isle and other dolphin signs. Park in that parking lot for free and enjoy a 5 - 10 minute stroll down the promenade and through the Village.
