An artist in the medium of oil painting, Denis O’Leary is known for his depictions of the Latino community. Denis has had exhibits at the Mexican Consulate, Santa Barbara and Oxnard.

Denis is an emerging artist and writer with deep social consciousness. He is a retired bilingual elementary school teacher from Oxnard, California. His teaching career of 31 years has paralleled his advocacy for Latino students, their families and the Latino community. He also has taken leadership roles in organizations such as the California Association for Bilingual Education, the League of United Latin American Citizens, and the United Farm Workers.

Denis O’Leary has written an adult novel, “Alba Walking in the Shadows of Filicide,” a real-life thriller based on an infanticide that took place in the agricultural fields of California and profoundly impacted the Mixteco community. He has written children’s books including the International Latino Award Winning, “Esteban’s Caravan,” “Popol Vuh Stories for Children” and “Gabriela Mistral, Teacher, poet and diplomat” as well as books about migrant workers, DREAMER’s, Cesar Chavez, and Dolores Huerta.
